The soldier on the left is all business with that level brim. The one one the right looks a little more of a rascal.
An all black unit founded in 1869 and participated in combat in numerous wars. The motto "San Juan" on the unit insignia on the hat and lapels commemorates the regiment's participation in capturing San Juan Hill during the Spanish-American War. They were utilized at the Infantry School at Fort Benning when this picture was taken and then later fought in the Pacific. Still in existence, although obviously no longer a segregated unit.
