October 1942. "Salvage queen Annette del Sur, an office employee at Douglas Aircraft, Long Beach, California, with aluminum scraps collected at the plant." 4x5 Kodachrome transparency by Alfred Palmer. View full size.
Two sharp things: (1) the shavings around her neck can be extremely sharp. Anyone picking one up is very likely to get cut. I know since I've worked in machine shop and learned not to touch those shavings without a rag in my hand to cover my fingers. (2) the girl is sharp looking too. Nice brunette. Truly Annette of the South.
