Washington, D.C., or vicinity, 1924. "Max Wiehle." Exhibit A in the Case of the Battered Buick. National Photo Company glass negative. View full size.
This is a 1924 Buick Model 24-50.
This car, a 7-passenger sedan, was Buick's heaviest model at 4,020 pounds, and built on a 128" wheelbase. A total of 9,561 were built plus another 71 for export. The colors were black fenders and cobalt blue body. The rear spare tire was standard equipment but there should be two of them.
An interesting styling feature was the change in radiator design this year. The outer radiator shape made Buick's radiator appear similar to Packard's radiator. Packard was not amused and then temporarily emulated Buick's, "When better automobiles are built, Buick will build them," slogan with, "When prettier cars are built, Packard will build them." Buick went to a more rounded outer radiator shape in 1925.
Buick was the #5 American brand this year behind Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, and Willys-Overland.
