April 1936. "Farm boys. Jackson County, Ohio." 35mm nitrate negative by Theodor Jung for the Farm Security Administration. View full size.
I had an great-uncle that looks very much like that fellow on the left. He would have been 21 years old in 1936. My grandparents ran a boys' home in Jackson County, Ohio around this time period so I'll have to poke around to see if it might be him.
you still have WWII and the Draft to look forward to.
The East River, specifically, and you'll have the Dead End Kids.
These boys look like they were caught by their father smoking one of his cigars. "Git out back and git me a switch, young 'un"
they will probably become part of the "Greatest Generation."
