So did those shoes come from the uniform dept at at the NEX?
You don't have to look far on a USN ship to find a Stokes. They are almost iconic of a USN bulkhead, like fire hose and a fog applicator clipped next to it, and battle laterns.
Back in the ancient daze.. 1969-1970, I would wear "undress whites" on "duty days".. I often wondered how these uniforms were kept clean went they were worn every day as a working uniform (before WW-II, "dungarees" were only worn for "coaling" or heavy maintenance, not as a "uniform of the day")
This photo illustrates that my question had gone unanswered for at least fifty years before I asked it..
Patient: Doctor, my stomach hurts. It's like there is a pressure on it.
Doctor: Well, let's remove this german shephard and see how you feel.
Patient: Wow! That feels better! Thank you doctor!
When I look closely at some of the clothing, haircuts and faces in military pictures like this, it's hard to imagine the photo being nearly 100 years old. It's like you could see these guys walking down the street and, to us civilians, they probably wouldn't look anachronistic.
I understand that dog therapy is now a very successful part of patient treatment of the elderly. Many Hospitals are using dogs to help people with Dementia and other age related illnesses. Other patients, especially children, also benefit from the companionship and affection that a trained therapy dog brings them. Those of us that have, at one time or another, owned canine pets can relate to this as well.
Weel Doc, it started as a small growth on my hip
No pipes, no mustaches, matching uniforms, very modern looking.
I thought this was from WWII at first glance.
