May 19, 1923. Washington, D.C. "Miss Jessie Hoover." Noted Milk Authority. National Photo Company Collection glass negative. View full size.
The good old days of whole milk are gone forever. Whenever I feel a little sad, I buy a quart of whole milk and a box of Frosted Flakes. Zooks, it's a dessert, not a breakfast! Mmmmm.
My uncle had a dairy farm. Staying there over a weekend, my cousin woke me early and we went to the milkhouse. It was a brisk fall morning. We entered the small building, and he opened the lid of the stainless milk cooler, which was huge, and dipped a cup into the ice-cold raw milk and gave it to me. Creamy, cold, and delicious!
And then, naturally, we sneaked off to the barn and smoked cigarettes.
not "Mrs." and don't you forget it, bub.
Ah. My hometown University of Wisconsin Ag Extension was plugging the virtues of milk to the kiddies back when. 'Twas ever thus, but I wish she could have projected a bit more enthusiasm for the cause. Nice milk plugging photos on the wall though.
She looks more like a castor oil expert than a milk expert.
If you don't drink it, she will haunt your dreams. (shudder)
Not only was she the daughter of a future POTUS and sister of the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation but she was also the inventor of the vacuum cleaner.
[Ha ha. Not by a Dam sight.]
