Washington, D.C., 1914. "Boy Scouts -- field sports." Our second look at these kids. Harris & Ewing Collection glass negative. View full size.
As a USATrack&Field certified starter, I think I can tell you all that this race is going to be fun: loosely organized, wide open and being started by one of their peers(not someone with the "in charge" presence we are trained to assume). Here's hoping some of those boys pursued track and cross country in school and enjoyed every minute of it.
Isn't the person with the gun the Starter for the foot races?
'Cause that kid in the knickers in the front row has a gun!
I clicked on this and thought it must be a camp for delinquent kids, then I read the caption.
The kid in the front row with the ultra-thick hair, about 3rd or 4th from the left, looks like a Kennedy.
Kid in the front row with a hat, sixth from the right, with the multicolored shoes a la Chad Ochocinco!
