July 1941. "Mother and child. Alley dwelling area. Washington, D.C." Happy Mother's Day from Shorpy! Photo by Edwin Rosskam. View full size.
This sweet photo reminds me of the story of the wealthy woman walking past a poor woman standing with her children.
The wealthy woman, all dressed in fine furs and diamonds turns and asks the mother, "Where are your jewels". The Mom turns to her children...hugging them with her arms and says, "Why, These are my jewels".
This is a beautiful photo for Mother's Day! Thanks, Shorpy.
I love mom's floral print dress with rickrack trim.
That little kid is around 72 years old now.
That's about the most precious thing I've ever seen.
