January 1923. "Dog show." On a cold day in Washington, D.C., strategies for keeping warm include wearing fur or a Chihuahua -- or both. View full size.
Ohhh how I adore Irish Wolfhounds. I love the contrast between the woman in knickerbockers and the proper lady in her furs.
I have a collection of little ceramic shoes, most of which are 1920s style. One of them is almost identical to the shoes worn by the lady on the left.
The lady with the chihuahua reminds me of Pancho Barnes. She would have been about twenty two when this picture was taken. I don't know if she was ever in Washington, but it seems likely. Does anyone know the names of the women in the picture?
[Well, she did have a pet Chihuahua. - tterrace]
