Washington, D.C., circa 1927. "Orme group." Violet Orme (far left, last seen here) has another birthday. National Photo Company glass negative. View full size.
Of the 11 girls, only one parted her hair on the right side. She's also fond of her flapper pearl necklace.
to a local exhibition and have the "Guess Your Age" guy try and figure out their ages, he would surely lose some money.
Well, at least they seem to be having a better time than in the last picture! A couple of the gals are actually smiling and Violet herself seems to be on the verge of cracking up.
I love that Violet is in almost the same position as in the previous year's photo - relaxed and not at all ladylike. Her mother must have despaired. It's interesting how much these girls have changed in a year - last year many of them still looked like little girls, but the passage of a year (as well as more grown-up clothes) has made most of them into young women.
Even a group of teens could wear it safely, along with dresses aping their mom's fashions.
What is cutest about this portrait: the paper-doll place holders, set it front of each plate. But one must assume that this household could afford servants - who else would polish all that intricate silver?
What's with this Violet girl, does she have a Birthday every year or somethin'?
Sheesh, some kids are so spoiled!
