"Xmas 1951." Our golden boy is back in this 13th example from a series of Kodachromes taken in the crook of the Lower Michigan mitten. Whatever is in there, we hope it's better than Dad's leg lamp. View full size.
Our little buddy seems to suffer from a mild form of crossed eyes.
Re: glow-in-the-dark icicle - of course, I see it now.
is what I see on the floor. It appears to have fallen off of the tree. The plastic stars on the tree are of the same material (one with an icicle hanging behind it). We used to have both that would go on our Christmas tree every year. The main thing was we had to keep them away from the hot light bulbs or they would melt. It was great to turn of the tree lights and the room lights and see the icicles and stars both glowing in the dark room.
Based just on the photos depicted on Shorpy, this kid had far too pleasant a childhood. Probably turned into an amiable, engaging, and otherwise abnormal adult!
The instrument lying on the floor appears to be a letter opener. Perhaps Junior was instructed to open his presents with surgical precision. You can buy quite a nifty pedal car with the money you save by reusing gift-wrap paper.
I remember when it was made out of lead. My sister's cat thought it was delicious!
And elaborately tied ribbons. No stick-on bows!
