Washington, D.C., circa 1927. "Mrs. Horne -- Waneta Council No. 6, D of P." The Degree of Pocahontas, a.k.a. Daughters of Pocahontas, was the ladies' auxiliary of the Improved Order of Red Men, a Masonic fraternal organization for white people who liked to dress up as Native Americans. View full size.
Beautiful twin sisters standing beside the man wearing the native American bow tie and feathered fedora.
Neither the Improved Order of Redmen nor the Daughters of Pocahontas are affiliated with the Freemasons. They've been entirely separate since their founding.

Why so many long faces among those pale faces. Prohibition?
Christmas card catalogue places this scene at 1626 L Street NW
I never realized that Native American women wore such sensible shoes back in the day! The woman on the right in the white shoes, I'd swear she's sporting the same Reeboks my mom wears.
This reminds me of the Indian scene in "The Music Man" where the Wa Tan Ye girls perfom in River City!
Q: Why is the guy in the middle wearing that silly looking hat?
A: To keep his wigwam.
