"Wait a minute, Bubba, I think you're doing that wrong." Circa 1948 somewhere in New England, it's little Linda and friend at the drugstore. 35mm Kodachrome slide found on eBay, resuscitated with NikonScan and Photoshop. View full size.
Why would anyone want to put these slides up for sale? They are such a wonderful record of Linda's life that one would think that she would want to keep them. Maybe they belonged to an older relative who passed away and the slides were gotten rid of when the person's estate was cleared out. At any rate, these are two adorable toddlers!!!

There is a town of Spencer in Massachusetts, just west of Worcester, which would be consistent with the idea that our favorite young lady is from New England. It's a pity that we can't see more of the mat. Spencer Drugs would be consistent with the Bay State location, though of course not conclusive, while Spencer's Drugs would pretty much rule it out. But we can't tell whether there's an apostrophe or not.
Apropos of an earlier comment, the door and window design looks like a typical storefront design from the early 20th Century, so it probably doesn't mean much.
Note: there is no business called Spencer Drugs in Spencer, Massachusetts, but of course there could have been one in the past. There was a pharmacy called Collette Drugs during the photo's time period, but with a population of close to 8,000 at the time Spencer could have supported two (or more) drug stores.
[Think Whitefield, New Hampshire, or thereabouts. - Dave]
When they're 22, it'll only take a few hours for them to drive to Woodstock.
That's what's on the mat, also a sign that says "Fountain" on the front window.
Does the mat give a location clue?
Spot on. This Linda can't even talk, but her body language, especially the hand, makes it clear she has ideas about what the guy has and what he's doing. (He doesn't see it coming yet.)
