But my mother did meet my father when he was hospitalized at Walter Reed in 1943 with war-related injuries.
The other significant improvement was to cast material. For that matter, full body casts are just about unheard of these days.
If there's one thing that has improved greatly since then, it the headphones. Those old metal things were torture. Modern plastic rules!
