1952. "Entertainer Gene Kelly executing leap over film cans labeled with titles of his movies." From photos by Maurice Terrell for Look magazine. View full size.
A can is missing in the incorrectly titled "Take Me Out To Ball Game" and appears to have been added to "The Black Hand" which should correctly be "Black Hand." The film "Pilot No. 5" should be "Pilot #5."
Kelly also appeared as himself in the 1952 film "Love Is Better Than Ever," released a month before "Singin' in the Rain," but it was an unbilled cameo and possibly why it is not shown in the photo.
The film names on the cans start with the October 21, 1942 release of "For Me and My Gal and go through the March 27, 1952 release of "Singin' in the Rain." Kelly would go on to act in, direct, or choreograph another 26 films.
Probably the most singularly appealing human being ever to dance. Actor, choreographer, director, and a snappy dresser to boot. He even almost saved "Xanadu."
Really enjoy these exquisite 'Look' photos.
