Colorized from this Shorpy original. Wow this one gave me hand cramps. Just wish I had a higher res version to use. View full size.
Great to see this beautiful work. Inspiring as always. Now, to find the time.
Hats off to you! This is magnificent! Bet it took you awhile...
Amazing! That's got to be one of the best colorizations I have seen on here. Fantastic!
What a convincing job, skizmal! The detail is astonishing. One thing that seemed especially familiar to me: What appears to be a pricing sign at the midpoint of the far right side of the photo; its price, if I am seeing what I think I am, is 22 cents, in reddish-orange raised letters.
If that is indeed what that portion of the image is, we used very similar signs in grocery stores through the early 1980s, and I changed a many of them every week. Of course, the colors were precisely as you have chosen in your recreation but the letters and numbers on our versions were plastic. I guess the older versions might have been wood or enameled metal?
I`ve colorized a few hundred pics, and I detail like you because that's what make the pic stick out. I think that my work is pretty darn good, but this is one of the best if not the best colorized picture ever done here on Shorpy, in my opinion. Your detailing is just fantastic and the colors are very natural looking. I know what your saying as far as your hand cramps go, hours of work is put in to doing detailed work. People who never colorized before, this is how its done. Rich.
This is gorgeous. How did you know what color to make everything? I would like to be able to go to that store and spend a week's wages.
As a work of colorizing, this is indeed extra fancy!
I have several colorized pictures on this site, but I wouldn't have tackled this one. Too many tiny details! But I'm glad you did. It's a great job in both your color selection and the fine attention to detail! It's really amazing! What did you use to do the colorizing? How much time did it take you?
