April 1952. "Actress Audrey Hepburn experimenting with various hairstyles, wigs, and makeup for film Roman Holiday." From photos for the Look magazine assignment "Audrey ... the new Hepburn." View full size.
I have never seen a more beautiful woman in real life or on film than Audrey Hepburn. She was old before I was born but when I stumbled across "Sabrina" on TV one Saturday morning in the 80's, it was like being struck by lightning.
It's no mistake that I am married to a petite, European brunette.
As for the wasp waist, styles come and go. That is one that I am glad went! Surely that couldn't have been comfortable.
My God ! she looks like every girl in my high school back in the 50's.
I adore Audrey Hepburn because she really possessed classic Hollywood style. But even more, she possessed style and grace off the set, too
As for her weight, I hadn't understood her history prior to seeing your link Dave. "The reason for her particular weight has roots in her childhood in war torn Europe, and there were periods for days and days when she had little to no food. At the time, her weight dropped to ninety points, dangerously skinny for her 5"7 frame."
Evidently, her mother moved with her from England to the Netherlands in 1939, thinking they would be safer in a neutral country!
Never went for the anorexic pixies. Give me Marilyn, Liz, Sofia, Lana, etc. Well, you get my drift.
[This is typical of a lot of our comments. Elfin Audrey Hepburn was hardly "anorexic." - Dave]
In a wonderful role; always a fun movie to watch. So glad the Director insisted on shooting on location.
