April 1941. "Street scene, South Side Chicago." 35mm nitrate negative by Edwin Rosskam for the Resettlement Administration. View full size.
State Street is the East West Dividing Line for Chicago. On the opposite side of the street, the sign could very well read E 44th st. You can find the intersection on Google street view but none of the buildings from the older photo is still standing.
I'm looking on googlemaps---seems West 44th Street ends before the Dan Ryan x-press way---east of the Dan Ryan - it's called East 44th Street - (State Street is east of the Dan Ryan)---so today this address would not be? I live in Chicago - so any Chicago street historians out there - would love to be enlightened.
On the South Side of Chicago.
