1910. "Dalton All-Star baseball team -- Elm Street Field, Dalton, Penna." 8x10 glass negative by George F. Purdon, scanned by Shorpy Labs. View full size.
This wouldn't be a professional league all-star team as aenthal suggested. By 1910, a player such as our young catcher would have been effectively banned from playing in the organized professional game.
The players look like very young men. I suspect these are the best players from the town's own league, and they fit the general age pattern for that; mostly under 21 and some only in their mid-teens.
"We got no wimps on our team Pilgrim!" says the (young) John Wayne lookalike front row right side. Speaking of Pilgrims - Happy Thanksgiving Shorpy fans.
No clue which uniform is which, but the member teams of the Ohio-Pennsylvania League during 1909-1911 included:
Akron Champs
Canton Deubers
Canton Watchmakers
Erie Sailors
East Liverpool Potters
New Castle Nocks/Alliance
Mansfield Brownies
Mansfield Reformers
McKeesport Potters
McKeesport Tubers
Youngstown Steelmen
Youngstown Indians
Steubenville Stubs
Assuming this was a league all-star team, and not a college or high school one, it is likely some of these people are from some of those teams.
Any experts on Pennsylvania baseball uniforms of 100 years ago are hereby drafted to identify the teams that contributed to these All-Stars. I count at least six different designs.
I bet the only performance-enhancing supplement was blackstrap molasses on biscuits.
