1912. Washington, D.C. "Georgetown-Carlisle game; Glenn Warner." But ... where are the skyboxes? Harris & Ewing Collection glass negative. View full size.
The game was played on the Georgetown campus at Georgetown Field (aka Varsity Field), which was used for football, baseball and other sports. The football field appears to have been where Copley Lawn is today.
If that is Thorpe on the right up there, and it does look like it to me, then you can see a bit why he was so dominant. He looks like a giant compared to some of those other guys.
This would be the year that Jim Thorpe dominated the 1912 Olympics, but was later stripped of his medals.
That's Warner, fifth from right, about to steamroll over some poor little guy headed the opposite direction.
I don't see "Pop" Warner, but that big fellow on the right appears to be All-American Jim Thorpe for the Carlisle Indian Industrial School during their national championship year. Carlisle won the game 34-20. Georgetown went on to have an 8-1 season that won them their conference. Two weeks later, in Carlisle's trouncing of Army, star halfback Dwight Eisenhower was injured trying to tackle Thorpe.
