Our third visit with the Douglas family in Takoma Park, Maryland: Zilpha Minnie Childs Douglas (1859-1960) and her children Helen (1885-1987) and Willard (1887?-1960). The photographer was Edward Morehouse Douglas (1855-1932). It's interesting to note that the ladies here lived to be centenarians. View full size.
The genetic endowment of females of that line is extraordinary.
There was a bit of a banjo fad in the 1890s, what is now sometimes called classical or parlor banjo. Bluegrass wouldn't be invented for another 50 years.
I love the ladies' cotton dresses. Zilpha looks so much more comfortably and informally dressed than my relatives appear in photos taken around the same time.
