Columbus, Georgia, circa 1951. "Military funeral." One in a series of photos showing a quartet of flag-draped caskets. Georgia historians please fill in the blanks. 4x5 acetate negative, ex newspaper morgue. View full size.
Agreed that these were probably Korean War casualties. The deceased may or may not have been from Columbus, GA. Just a guess, but the scene here would be prior to their interment at the post cemetery at Fort Benning, located about 12 miles southeast of Columbus. The presence of the African Americans in uniform suggests that at least one of the deceased served in Korea with the all-black 24th Infantry Regiment.
My son went through Airborne school there. Most likely Korean War casualties.
