New York circa 1915. "Police tuba players." HALT OR WE'LL TOOT. 5x7 inch glass negative, George Grantham Bain Collection. View full size.
There's left-handed tubas?
The sousaphone with the upturned bell on the left is the original configuration as envisioned by John Philip Sousa himself. The bell front one on the right is the later (and now more popular) version.
The nickname "raincatcher" is a common term among tuba players for this type of horn.
Hope the guy on the left didn't march in the rain.
Actually three tubas and two Sousaphones. The Sousaphones will wrap around the body (better for marching) and has the large bell. Sound is similar.
