Washington circa 1935. "U.S. Capitol exteriors. Dome of Capitol and park in winter." 5x7 nitrate negative by Theodor Horydczak. View full size.
What a beautiful picture. One of the loveliest I've seen on Shorpy. Thank you.
I remember snow like this, walking on unshoveled sidewalks and paths through the park. We don't get snow like this anymore in KS. Not for a long time anyway. I wish we did as I miss it.
I come from a place (Winnipeg) of cold winters and crisp snow and long afternoon shadows. This photo makes me yearn for the days, before salt, when pathways were plowed but covered with snowpack. The contrast of the snow against the dark branches of the left foreground tree is just gorgeous.
The snow in Washington is probably three times that deep this afternoon . . . and it is still coming down heavily.
