Washington, D.C., circa 1925. "Lincoln Memorial. View of statue through columns." 8x10 glass negative by Theodor Horydczak. View full size.
Just noticed in this photo I took from almost the same spot in 2012 that the inscription behind Lincoln is missing in the earlier one. When was that added?
Great photo, but the watermark steals the show.
Having lived in the DC suburbs I managed to visit the Lincoln Memorial any number of times. When not crowed by noisy tourists, etc. it produced a feeling in me of,for a better word, awe. The statue and the inscription above it ("In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever.") would have been enough, but the inscriptions on the side walls -- The Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address) pushed feeling to a whole new level.
Love the picture, but that's the coolest watermark ever!
It was back before 'Shorpy' got carved into the wall.
Nice watermark! One of the best hidden ones so far.
