Just happened onto this site and completely by chance came across this picture of my dad, Herb Kroeten. As stated in a previous comment, he was a civilian instructor at West Point for 46 years, '48-'94. The training program at Manhattan Beach was run by Jack Dempsey.
Herb was a civilian PE instructor at West Point for at least 20 years -- in fact, one of my seven nose fractures occurred under his gentle auspices. I still recall with a shudder his frequent admonition: "Okay, you guys, less dancin', more hittin'!"
