Ms. Reynolds, who held her own at 19 dancing with Gene Kelly in "Singin' in the Rain," died one day after her daughter, the actress Carrie Fisher. -- New York Times
May 1954. "Debbie Reynolds with Jane Powell in dance scene from the MGM musical Athena." Kodachrome by Maurice Terrell for the Look magazine assignment "Behind the Scenes -- A Day With the Stars." View full size.
Now maybe it's completely by accident but I can't help thinking they deliberately put Debbie in a perfectly fitted, wrinkle-free blouse while the others are all rather ill-fitting, wrinkled and with rolled up sleeves.
Star treatment.
Scott Eyman's bio of Louis Mayer recalls his belief in Reynolds over her own objections to taking on the 'Rain' role.
To Reynolds complaint, "I can't dance!" Mayer said, "You'll dance." Kelly's complaint, "She can't dance!" elicited only "She'll dance."
Wonderful, talented lady. Saw her show in Las Vegas and she came to our table and greeted us personally. She led a very interesting life. Condolences to the family.
I met Ms. Reynolds when she came to Dayton, Ohio for a TWIGS event.
My niece was on the TWIGS board at the time and I had to wait for her to finish something before I could join her.
Then I started to talk to a lady next to me. As we talked I realized my that it was Debbie Reynolds. She was one of the most genuine people that I had met.
We must have talked for about 10 minutes before she had to leave.
Extremely pleasant and intelligent lady.
