Columbus, Georgia, circa 1957. "Cardinals baseball." Ain't nuthin' Coach can't fix with an Ace bandage and the Medcolator! 4x5 inch acetate negative from the Shorpy News Photo Archive. View full size.
This appears to be the Model K Medcolator. I'm not sure, but I think it sends small electrical impulses to a damaged muscle to help repair it, similar to a modern-day TENS machine. The knob on the upper left is set to "automatic" - Pulse, surge, tetanize, reciprocal 1 second and reciprocal 3 second are the other choices. The upper right switch is set to "medium" pulse - sloe and fast being the other choices. The big middle dial is a timer and is at "0". The switches on the bottom are "volume" indicators - the left one is at "1", the right one at "0". And finally, the toggle switch at the middle bottom is a frequency switch, and this is is set to "high".
