In the summer of 1963, just before my seventh birthday, we had fallen on hard times and had to move away from the town where I was born. I remember being all excited about the move. About two days after we moved into our next home, I told my parents that I was done and ready to go back to the old house. Somehow, I didn't get that this wasn't just a vacation -- that the change was permanent.
