17 cents an hour is about $3 an hour in today’s money. No wonder they were on strike. You couldn’t live on 17 cents an hour then, you can’t live on $3 an hour today.
To pick garlic in 1970. I was 12. An hour later, the farmer didn't get a bushel, and I walked an hour back home without a quarter.
