Another lost street trade?
The sun's out and he doesn't look like an umbrella user. I was born in 1946 and remember the umbrella repair guy, the sharpening guy and the rags and paper guy. Umbrellas were repaired at the local commercial hub. Sharpening was done door-to-door with a wheeled pedal-powered grindstone. The rag man would cruise the alleys and had a very loud "Hey! Rags! Paper!" spiel. Downtown had peanut, hot pretzel and newspaper vendors and attendants at the public restroom.
