"Convention in session, 3 a.m." Supporters of House Speaker Champ Clark for president at the Democratic nominating convention in Baltimore, June 1912. View full size. 5x7 glass negative, George Grantham Bain Collection.
Remember that there were a few states that allowed women the vote in 1912 - Wyoming Territory allowed women to vote in 1869 and Utah gave them the vote in 1870 (although it was taken away from women in Utah by Congress in 1887 mainly because the women voted for polygamy) - so it was entirely possible, and indeed probable that there were women delegates to the conventions of both political parties in 1912 even though women didn't get the vote nationally until 1920
Do I spy some womenfolk in the lower to middle corner of the picture? Maybe I just need glasses. Also, I love the guy that's almost in middle of the picture wearing white and a bow tie. My husband still wears hand tied bow ties!
