June 26, 1922. "Laura Lyle, Olive Robinson, Virginia Roche, Ruth O'Brien" aboard a ship. 5x7 glass negative, George Grantham Bain Collection. View full size.
My mom, married in 1922, either never had or burned her wedding pictures because she thought the clothes were incredibly hideous. Have to admit the transition from scraping the ground to barely scraping the knees was not the best of times stylewise.
I have a friend who worked in the women's shoe department while in college, and saw a LOT of little (and not so little) old ladies who INSISTED that they were a size 6, and always had been, thankyouverymuch, when they really needed a 9.
He says he'll never, ever, EVER have a foot fetish.
Miss O'Brien is just getting a head start on her bunions & hammertoes.
I'm not sure she could even pry those off!
Those hats really didn't flatter anybody too much! Looks like they are having a ton of fun.
Come Aboard. We're expecting you...
Laura Lyle and Virginia Roche were Broadway starlets - they show up in half a dozen shows each, not terribly high in the cast list.
Olive Robinson does not show up on the IBDB, nor does Ruth O'Brien. The latter search is complicated by the fact that there's a relatively famous but much younger Ruth O'Brien.
Ruth's dress is amazing, though! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!
