April 12, 1910. "Chinatown after shooting." The Port Arthur teahouse at 9 Mott Street in New York's Chinatown during the tong wars between the Hip Sings and On Leongs. 5x7 glass negative, George Grantham Bain Collection. View full size.
Below is the identical view taken in April of 2010. Many of the buildings in the 1910 view remain.
Looks like about 3 or 4 doors down from current Wo Hop restaurant (if you're a cop, fireman or fat guy like me, you'll know)
The steeple seen in the top right is still there. The names on the restaraunts have changed. No more Soy Kee or Sing Lee, or Port Arthur. Wing Tong anyone?
And tell me what street compares with Mott Street in July,
Sweet pushcarts gently gliding by.
- Rodgers & Hart
Well, on Google Street View you can see a couple of these buildings. I think the Google driver was doing about 50mph though.
