Washington, D.C., 1924. "High school track meet, Central Stadium." National Photo Company Collection glass negative. View full size.
The winner is a winner. Apparently not only athletic as shown in the moment but with his good looks, he must have been a lady-killer in his day. He appears to be about 16 years old or so, it is difficult to imagine that if he were yet living today, he would be 100.
Central High at 13th & Clifton NW, later to become Cardozo High School! Only the old-timers remember it being called Central High. It was all white and later become completely African American -- and today is predominantly Hispanic. This beautiful school on the hill has certainly seen the times change in D.C. and has housed and schooled generations!
[The cornerstone was laid in 1915; the 400,000-square-foot school opened two years later. - Dave]
