The film and stage actress Grace Valentine circa 1920 at the wheel of an enormous roadster. View full size. 5x7 glass negative, George Grantham Bain Collection.
Can you imagine this little slip of an actress turning that pre-power-steering wheel?
Really Awesome Ride....
although she looks so tiny in that beast!
Grace Valentine was born Grace Sharrenberger in 1884. Her motion picture career primarily ran from 1916-1918 when she did nine films. She did one film in 1921, one in 1929 and two in the 1930s. According to the Internet Broadway Database she began her Broadway career in 1912 and did her last play (a revival of Anna Christie) in 1952. The period of her film work coincides with a gap in her Broadway career but nothing obvious explains a gap between 1921 and 1926 when she wasn't credited in either IMDB or IBDB. She apparently married once, to Wayne Nunn - an actor with a far less impressive CV. Grace made two TV appearances in 1949, first in the "Chevrolet Tele-Theatre" and then in "Suspense." She died in 1964.
I thought it stood for Rich and Respectable.
