My grandmother had a big spider in her kitchen in Lake Okeechobee, Florida, back in the 40's. When my parents moved in, my mother freaked! She was told to leave it alone, it ate other insects. It was still there when they moved out.
What are you all seeing that I can't see? Other than the abject poverty and despair.
There is an interesting contrast between the woman and the little girl. The woman looks worn out by poverty and old before her time. The little girl looks bright eyed, hopeful and interested in her surroundings. She doesn't know she is "poor." I hope she was able to improve her life.
