and OMG what a nice looking desk!
It's always weird when dates line up - although this doesn't exactly line up. She died on March 15, 1974; I was born on March 17, 1974. Sure, lots of people died that close to my date of birth, but I'm not looking at a picture of one of them.
Looking at those multiplication problems behind Miss Ramey, I wonder what grade it was she was teaching. I know a lot of college students who could not do those problems today without a calculator.
It's the "Star-Spangled Banner" written in longhand on the far board. Strikes me for some reason.
According to my research, Elizabeth Ramey was born in Virginia on November 15, 1896. In the 1930 census, her occupation is a schoolteacher. She died (still named Ramey) in Alexandria on March 15, 1974. I did not view the entire obituary (it costs $3.95), but the "preview" version headline listed Elizabeth as a George Washington University graduate and a school principal.
