"Bathing beach." Circa 1923, a faded view of fun on one of the long-gone Potomac bathing beaches of Washington, D.C. View full size. National Photo Company.
The gal with double strap on her arm is awesome, attractive, and is getting a lot of attention from all the guys around her. She would look good in the 20's, 60's, and now.
What gets me most about this photo is that nothing has changed. I used to hang out with my mates in exactly the same manner. Even the look on the kids' faces is the same. This should not surprise me ... not sure why it does actually.
This seems to be at the tail-end of the prudish era- the guys are still wearing tank tops, the gals in long bathing suits and even stockings in some cases. It seems that there was a world of change in beach attire during the 1920s.
This photo just goes to show that people could still have a good time and actually function quite well without the gadgets we can't seem to do without nowadays!
