I join you all in your intrigue over the HAIR!! I just can't imagine achieving such looks today without the help of technology. There are curling irons, flat irons, hair dryers, hot combs, hot rollers, crimping irons, AND MORE!
Praise be to the women of yesterday!
[Believe it or not, they had curling irons in 1923. Electric, even. - Dave]
The girl at the top of the far table looks genuinely happy, in contrast to the one at the other end who looks thoroughly miserable. Wonder how their lives turned out?
Anyone else think that the fourth girl down is shooting daggers?
Among all the various bobs, the one that really stands out is the classic Mary Pickford.
I love seeing the hairstyles close up. I am amazed at how they and future generations (40s, 50s, 60s) got their hair to stay in place. Lots of teasing, curling, and goop for sure! And this was just a regular old day for these gals. No special occasion! Thank you for all you do with this site. I just love it!

Dave, can we get a blowup of the posters on nutrition and the food groups?
That little milk bottle in front of the closest girl. Oh my God, the memories that bottle brings back. Ice cold milk in those bottles with those rounded rims. In school lunchrooms, in the refrigerator at home, left by the milkman on the back porch, inside those insulated metal boxes with the dairy's name on the outside. Wow.
Uh...to ask the obvious question, training for what? Good nutrition? Today some of those girls would probably leave the table and head for the bathroom to purge.
[A training table is where athletes in training eat. The girls could have been on the track team, tennis team etc. They had separate tables and a separate menu. Still a common expression. The P.F. Chang's restaurant chain has a Training Table menu. Our photo was part of a series on girls' sports. - Dave]
