Circa 1928, more fun in the sun at Plum Point near Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. National Photo Company Collection glass negative. View full size.
Where is, or where was, Plum Point? I lived in the area 20+years in the 70/80s and never heard of it.
Yikes! That was a payment on a sizable house at that time. If that fellow on the blanket could afford things like that record player, I shouldn't wonder why all the girls are around him.
A sample of some of the tunes advertised below ... Real Player needed
Worried ...Paul Specht
What'll I Do ... Paul Specht
She's Everybody's Sweetheart ... Ted Lewis
Shine ... California Ramblers
I'll Have Vanilla ... Eddie Cantor
On A Windy Day 'way Down In Waikiki ... Eddie Cantor
My Papa Doesn't Two Time No Time ... Al Jolson
I would give a lot to know what "sweet music" they were listening to.
Also where they were and how they were faring 5 years later.
Off to daydream....
Since when did they have portable "record players" in 1928?? Or am I seeing things that are not there? Help!!
[I'll bet they had radios and telephones, too. When did you think the phonograph was invented? - Dave]
...and YOU don't!
Look at the record player! Out on the beach on a nice day eating an ice cream cone and listening to your tunes! This is the life! The woman in the middle of the frame doesn't seem to want to be photographed, though.
