Two things caught my eye: the utter devastation of structures on both sides of the road, and the relatively untouched condition of the cobblestone road.
Since the Battle of Vimy Ridge took place in April, 1917, and this photo is dated 1919, it could be that the road was repaved. Still, it is a stark contrast.
