February 1864. Brandy Station, Virginia. "Headquarters, Army of the Potomac. Lt. Chas W. Wolsey with horse." Wet-plate glass negative. View full size.
In a third-person memoir sent to his sister in 1897, Lt. Wolsey (Woolsey) recalls being commissioned "in the second year of the war" as first lieutenant of Company A of the 164th NY Volunteer Infantry, part of the Irish Brigade. He spent most of the war, however, attached to the staff of the Army of the Potomac as an aide-de-camp.
"Can't talk much, I'm a little hoarse"
Maybe a Morgan? do we know? The hooves look a tad overdue for trimming though.
