I wonder what kind of courage this man had - not only to go to war and lose his hands; but what kind of courage did he have to allow the photo to be taken. What an interesting portrait.
One of my college classmates lost his arms, like this man, two years ago in Iraq. I wish I could thank the soldier in photograph for his sacrifice as well.
I looked at this picture a long time, seeing and feeling depression. But I'm hoping his look is more that of determination.
