"Goat team." Washington, D.C., circa 1917. B.L. Gershanick, tailor, did business at 2150 P Street N.W. Harris & Ewing Collection glass negative. View full size.
I have been looking at the overalls of the man here -- and they are very torn and worn. I think this is a beautiful photo. I am struck but the expression on the drover's face and also the detail on the goat to the right.
But there is something very sad here. 1917... the autos were coming in.
The billy closest to camera is quite majestic, isn't he?
That contraption would be right at home in a Little Rascals movie.
Note that he's got both a wagon and a trailer hitched up behind it. There's a seat in the wagon, but evidently the goat drover prefers to walk.
