This was taken at my great grandparents house in LA who are seated at the table (second from left and far right) with some neighbors. They were very close with their neighbors, something I think is missing in many suburbs these days (including my own). Can anyone identify the camera? View full size.
That's definitely a Retina, either a IIIc or a IIIC. The "Large-C" is the later model and did not have the little flip-up cover over the meter. The way the camera is lying in the picture, it's hard to tell for sure. I took thousands of photos with my IIIc over the years and it still works, although It's been 4 or 5 years since I've used it.
Looks like maybe a Kodak Retina IIIc. It's a great photo, BTW. You can't get much more fifties than this. Beer, milk and ciggies on the table (the latter in one of those translucent plastic protecto-packs or whatever they were called). Looks like perhaps a bottle of the hard stuff on the table, too. The chairs are iconic chrome with plastic pads in the cracked ice pattern- table probably matches with a Formica top. Full range of typical fifties dinner table garb, from the guy in shirt and tie to bashful, flat-topped tee shirt boy. We had a thermostat control just like the one on the wall at the left edge.
On the other hand, that's a Braun camera case.
