My dad taught barbering and cosmetology in a state prison. He called the inmates in the program "my boys" and to the end of his life there were former students (a.k.a. ex-cons) who remained in contact with Dad, seeing him as instrumental in changing their lives.
This is not too much unlike the high school my brother and I went to in Northern N.J. except we were all boys.Talk about strict! In the long run it made us better people.
