Long Beach, Long Island, N.Y., circa 1913. "Hazel Reiber." Who was evidently enough of a notable to have her picture taken (twice) by the Bain News Service. 5x7 glass negative, George Grantham Bain Collection. View full size.
Perhaps. Or the photographer's girlfriend. Or just someone he deemed as attractive.
Miss (or Mrs.?) Reiber is sporting the latest word in canvas bathing shoes; I believe they were required to be worn by women on most "respectable" beaches in this era. I have actually seen a few old pairs for sale on ebay.
Looks like a real soppy summer beach set of Sand-Lot baseball.
Looks like she is out for a day of baseball on the beach. It appears the photographer caught her in action.
Are those baseball shoes???
If you're wrestling. And not at the beach.
Why is there a septic vent behind Hazel? Where does she get replacements for the laces on her shoes? Could she possibly be a female boxer? What a gal!
