Circa 1910. "Woodberry Forest Gymnasium Team." Prep-school gymnasts from Orange, Virginia. Harris & Ewing Collection glass negative. View full size.
That outfit really shows everything. I can even see his name and address.
Well, I think these young men look absolutely dashing and far more appropriate in their gymnastic outfits, and it's today's teenagers that look laughable. I believe 100 years from now the (hopefully smarter) people of the future will be rolling on the floor laughing at our shoddy, sloppy clothes.
Those uniforms are too much. I'd love to get these guys into the same room with a bunch of today's high schoolers and see which group dies of laughter first.
I'd be the guy in the back, standing with his arms crossed.
Tough job, but somebody's gotta do it.
What was Woodberry preparing these boys for, winters in Sarasota?
This might be one of those photos that simply need no caption, but stand on their own merits! A bunch of fellows looking like a circus act (and quite well!).
The high school I attended competes against Woodberry in athletics, and I went up there about half a dozen times while I was in HS. That building is still on campus and in use - or at least it was, 20-25 years ago.
They did not have a gymnastics team then, but they had a heckuva wrestling team.
Wow. This looks like a profoundly dangerous stunt. I wonder how they got everybody down safely.
That's another fine mess you got me into, Ollie! How on earth did he get up there? How will he get down?
I know where I saw these guys. On the Ed Sullivan Show. Or should I say Shew.
From these lithe-limbed Lotharios. Their kind will do you wrong.
