Washington, D.C., circa 1920. "Gus Tolson, baby." Details to come, if anyone can supply them. National Photo Company Collection glass negative. View full size.
Dino, I agree with your comment. His ear looks like a socket for an allen wrench.
Possibly Augustus G. Tolson. Lives in Philadelphia.
I think it was James Lileks who pointed out that all babies, at some point, looks as though they're NOT FROM EARTH.
Better known as Ernest Borgnine of McHale's Navy. I'm just saying.
Great day in the morning......it's a Midwich child!
Are my eyes playing tricks on me or does the baby have an extremely odd looking right ear? The ear canal looks like someone tried to repair his zombie-like expression with a sharp object.
Actually, this is an infant photo of Boston Redsox closer Jonathan Papelbon. He has yet to fully pucker the lips and develop that goofy glare under the bill of his cap. Yes, he would become the pride of the Redsox Nation, but would one day taste the bitterness of gall when the Angels would send him back to the bull pen in the top of the ninth in a crucial ALCS game. Alas, that it would happen in Fenway Park.
"And that's for making me wear a dress!"
Mesmerized by the cab idling outside, little Gus knew from this moment forward what his life's work would be.
... if I could get out of this chair I'd come show you where to put your camera!
I could just tickle those little feet!
If ever there were a Gus, this is him. Two-day stubble and a cigar would complete the look.
For a moment, I thought it was a picture of young Broderick Crawford.
That's young A-Rod staring at the pitcher.
Glenn Beck is older than he looks.
"Gus Tolson, baby," as opposed to "Gus Tolson, stevedore" or "Gus Tolson, sump pump."
Gus Tolson grew up to be one of the world's greatest hypnotists. It was something about his ... his eyes ... his eyes ... his eyes ...
This explains where the term "gussied up" originated.
Pablum and Farina again? I demand a new chef. What's next- potty training? I don't think so.
